Hello friends! Sorry for the tardiness; I was pooooped on Monday. With things opening up again and summer schedules doing that thing where somehow you’re like “omg I have all summer” but then you’re like “wait where are all my weekends,” I’m trying to take a beat, slow down, and reassess…and I’m not normally about motivational quotes or anything, but here’s one that got me 12% more energized this morning:
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
-Michael Jordan
Speaking of being overwhelmed by summer plans, I think comedian Jake Cornell has it down the best.
Okay here’s a throwback. Remember ABDC? Remember the Jabbawockeez?? See this NYTimes article on them and their continued legacy in Las Vegas as well as this video of them dancing to Tame Impala’s “Is It True.” Watching this video takes me back to circa 2008 when my friend and I danced a la style of the Jabbawockeez with the masks and gloves and everything. But my glove didn’t go on right during the performance, so I had what looked like a hanging pinky. It was a regrettable experience.
I got Tame Impala confused with M83 for a second and that brought me back to their 2016 album, “Junk.” If you want some epic, oddly pump up sort of atmospheric tunes, listen to this one and let me know what you think:
It’s Nice That’s newsletter is always filled with art and design goodies–the other week I discovered an illustrator named Younsik Woo. Her work examines the connections and interrelatedness of people. I like that she playfully displays this idea both visually and literally.
Came across this Elle article about Sarah Thomas, an Indian-American chef from Pennsylvania, who is inspiring and encouraging children to try different types of cuisines. Her book, Kalamata’s Kitchen, is for kids aged 4-6 featuring main character Kalamata and her alligator best friend, Al Dente (hahah so cute). The book is about encouraging kids to not be afraid of the adventures we can take when trying new things. The book has gone on to take a life of its own, which you can check out here. The website also features a “Taste Bud Travel Guide” filled with restaurants across the country that are family-friendly.
Speaking of food, made this recently for my in-laws and it was a hit! Super easy to make and probably not enough to be the only entree but a nice side entree situation paired with something else. It’s also a great summer dish. I can’t eat things that are super heavy in the summer–I think the heat makes me feel a teeny bit queasy, so I always need food that’s a bit brighter if that makes any sense as a food adjective.
Olympic trials are going on and I love watching these amazing athletes do what they do. Sha’Carri Richardson won the women’s 100m dash and gave a lovely & inspiring talk afterwards in an interview.
I don’t know why I’m ending on this particular item, but I thought the McDonalds x BTS collaboration was just the meals. But no, look at all this merch for their newest song, Butter:
I’m not mad at the socks. I don’t know why I keep featuring BTS stuff when I’m not even a fan. I should get a cut for all the promoting I do for them.
I’ll end on this note because it’s a frequent issue for me:
Hope you’re all healthy, safe and not burning out from returning to summer life! :)
Dude I saw the race and it was awesome!! Also the tik tok.. HAHA that was hilarious
