Hi friends, how are we this Monday morn? Hope you had a good weekend and are keeping it real. I just need to share this product that’s changing my life:
This laptop stand/tray situation is amazing. I can use it while I’m sitting on the couch or on the ground, and instead of having my hot laptop burn my thighs it can now sit on this wooden stand. I can put a beverage, my phone, the TV remote, snacks, etc. on the tray too, and it’s one of those small life improvements that makes such a difference. I will forever be a fan of the small things in life. Okay, onto this week’s list!
Ayo Edebiri, aka Ireland’s queen, aka Sydney from The Bear is having a great year. She was recently on SNL and always stood out on the red carpet during awards season–she is just killing it! Ayo seems to have had a meteoric rise at a young age, and I’m excited to see all the stuff she comes out with in the near future 🙌 Check out her interview with Vogue here. She’s got a fun cooking segment with them too:
Yall, my YouTube is on a movie kick, and I went down this rabbit hole for a while. This is a pro-Wes Anderson newsletter, and as such, I’d like to share this super interesting gem of an explanation of the timing of The French Dispatch. You’ll see what I mean:
A rare book review, but I finally finished one that I’d been reading on and off. Stay True: A Memoir is written by Taiwanese-American author and The New Yorker staff writer, Hua Hsu. It’s the story of his life, but focused on his unlikely friendship in college with Ken who was tragically killed in a carjacking their junior year. It won the Pulitzer Prize for memoir or biography in 2023. NYTimes critic Jennifer Szalai summed it up so well:
To say that this book is about grief or coming-of-age doesn’t quite do it justice; nor is it mainly about being Asian American, even though there are glimmers of that too. Hsu captures the past by conveying both its mood and specificity. This is a memoir that gathers power through accretion — all those moments and gestures that constitute experience, the bits and pieces that coalesce into a life.
If you’re looking for a book to read and can handle a bit of grief and heartache, this is a good one.
Yall, if you can believe it…this is honey. Yes, colored honey that may be a result of an M&M factory nearby a huge apiary in Alsace, France! Bee farmers are obviously very upset and cannot in good conscience sell these colorful honeys. I’d honestly buy it because a little bit of green honey never hurt anybody, but I guess rules are rules.
Wow, this NYTimes article about the life of Martin Greenfield is filled with both tragedy and triumph. These are the kinds of stories that give me hope!
Dude, tactile is so much better. I miss the days where turning something on involved more than just opening your laptop or looking at your phone. Let’s go back to the clickwheel and switches!
I love tips on hosting :) Because we all know there’s two versions of you when it comes to hosting people: 1) the ambitious you that thinks you have a lot of time and energy and peace of mind to make all these amazing things, and 2) the practical you that keeps it simple and can be more present because you didn’t overreach. I find that I’m a lot more of #1 until last minute stress makes me become #2 lol
One more thing on movies, but I loved this in-depth look at the making of Poor Things. Makes me want to watch it again!
Okay friends, that’s it for this week! For anyone observing Holy Week, I hope it’s a great one filled with reflection, reminders, and rejuvenation. All the good r-words. Ultimately, I hope it points you to the truth, love, and hope in Jesus and that it continues to shape how you think, live, and act. At least, that’s what I’m hoping for me :)
