Hi friends, happy Monday :) Hope you had a good weekend. I know it’s sweltering hot, but when I think about cold, winter days I much prefer this! July’s got so many good movies coming out, and I’m excited to be in the theaters and experience the good ole thrill of bringing outside snacks and drinks on the down low. I’ve been starting to exercise again (2 times is more than 0 times!!) thanks to a group of committed and enthusiastic ladies. Hopefully it becomes a part of my lifestyle…forever. Anyway, I’m tired from doing today’s yoga exercise, so let’s get to this week’s list:
Do you love Harry Potter? Do you want to take a nostalgic walk down the Harry Potter road? Do you want to cry? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, you have to watch the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts via Max or YouTube TV. It came out in January of 2022, but I never got to see it until a week ago. I think I even posted about it! Give it a watch <3
You know what factory’s in Jersey City, NJ? A pencil factory. It’s called General Pencil, and it’s been a family-owned factory for six generations! I had no idea this is how pencils are made, and I don’t think I could even begin to imagine the process haha check out Christopher Payne’s photography project on the pencil-making process at General Pencil.
I love this idea from A24. Scrounging: A Cookbook is comprised of recipes from MOVIES. Buddy’s breakfast spaghetti from Elf is on page 35, and Mrs. Kim’s “ram-don” from Parasite is on page 109. So cool!!! I gotta steal this idea haha
Let’s all move to the south of France, oui? I found this list from House & Garden of the most beautiful villages in Provence. A few years ago I went to Aix-en-Provence, Éze, and Antibes, and I can concur that these villages are just down right lovely. Who knows when the next France trip will happen, but until then I’ll just dream of these.
We watched “Asteroid City” last night, and it was…perplexing. I read a bunch of reviews, and they all had a few different takes. What’s clear is that Wes Anderson went ham on his “framing devices”. The movie is framed as a TV broadcast from 1955 televising a play portrayed by actors who are then acting out the play interspersed with “behind-the-scenes” moments where you’re not sure what’s part of the play in the broadcast or what’s part of the “real lives” of the actors. It’s confusing from beginning to end, but I very much think that was purposeful. I have my own theories of what the movie’s about, but I’ll leave the rest up to youz guyz. Here’s a little snapshot into the making of ‘Asteroid City’.
A really sweet project that @danazic embarked on called “Caitlin’s Things”. This guy, Dan Azic, is documenting one object a day that belongs to his partner, Caitlin, and he’s been learning more about her through them. It’s only for 100 days, and we’re on day 90. It’s simple, sweet, and impactful :)
Okay, new Wordle-like game alert! It’s called “Keyword”, and it’s from the Washington Post. There’s essentially one word you have to guess, but each of the letters in that main word are then connected to other words. It’s sort of like a smaller crossword puzzle mixed with Wordle. Bonus: this one’s for you past or current New Yorker/NY adjacent folks–Subwaydle.
Ok friends, that’s it for today. Sayōnara, have a great week! I’ll see you next Monday (:
Did you watch Spider-verse or past lives?? what did u think??
