...for Deep Dive #2
I’m trying to find a community of people who observe all the things when they watch TV or movies. The first time is a fun, pure watch where you’re just allowing the experience of the show or movie to wash over you. It’s like listening to a new album for the first time. You let yourself just be. You feel all the feelings. You might be listening to the words or you might not, but you allow the experience to just be about being. But the second or third time is when you can further flesh out the things you picked up on the first time you watched it, which is another joy in itself. That’s when you can dig a little deeper on the choice a director or writer or actor made and why. That’s when you can come up with your own theories about why this is a strong story or performance or not. This is an activity that I love doing, truly. If someone could pay me to watch stuff and spend too much time ruminating, analyzing, and waxing on about it even past its time of fame I’d do it!
An example of the type of observation that I make is something near and dear to my heart. It’s an indication of how realistic the story and the people are going to be. I find it one of the funniest things that directors and writers skip out on, but it’s weirdly important to me. What is it, you ask?
